Mayer Brown celebrates BASF expansion of Global Outside Counsel Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Program
Frankfurt, Germany, May 11, 2022 – Mayer Brown is proud to support BASF’s Global Outside Counsel Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) Program, which recently expanded to include global and regional firms in Asia Pacific, Europe/Middle East/Africa and South America. The Program takes a data-driven, scientific approach to increasing opportunities for women and lawyers from diverse backgrounds and underrepresented demographics.
BASF’s initial DEI Program, launched in 2016, heralded a new approach in addressing DEI for the company’s outside counsel in North America. The company’s data-driven model has more than doubled the number of diverse relationship partners on BASF matters and increased the share of diverse representation in leadership positions at panel firms by 9%.
Mayer Brown serves on BASF’s global panel and participates in its DEI Program, partnering with the company each year to complete the Global DEI Survey and leverage BASF’s Global Diversity Index to increase the number of diverse lawyers serving as relationship partners and/or working on BASF matters.

The Global Outside Counsel DEI Program was developed by BASF’s global Outside Counsel Management Team, headed by Global Head of Legal Operations Andreas Vosskamp (Germany) and Sneha Desai (US), under the project-lead of Clemens Hartmann, with Heike Weber, Svetlana Shelepina (all Germany) and Sarah Zhao (Hong Kong). BASF´s Global Outside Counsel DEI Program complements BASF Legal, Compliance & Insurance’s strong focus and efforts on DEI with a dedicated DEI group headed by Caroline Onyango-Dyregaard (Denmark).
