Christine Merkel is a senior associate in the Litigation practice in Mayer Brown’s Frankfurt office. She advises clients in complex domestic and international litigation and arbitration matters as well as out-of-court disputes in connection with national and international infrastructure, energy, construction and plant construction projects.

Prior to joining Mayer Brown in January 2021, Christine worked for three other leading international law firms in Frankfurt and London for several years. During this time, she acted for companies in disputes arising from corporate, energy, capital markets and construction law.

  • Representing a multinational consortium in an ADCCAC arbitration in Abu Dhabi related to the construction of an airport terminal;
  • Representing a major car manufacturer in a DIS arbitration against a U.S.-based automotive supplier relating to the termination of a supply contract, amount in dispute > EUR 900 million;
  • Advising a photovoltaic company in an ICC arbitration against a supplier due to the termination of long-term supply contracts for solar wafers and photovoltaic modules;
  • Advising a global energy supply group on the defense of a price adjustment and nullity action under a long-term gas supply contract;
  • Representing a leading German bank in a major dispute with former board members regarding so-called “cum/ex” transactions;
  • Advising a major asset management company in connection with damages due to a breach of ad hoc disclosure obligations;
  • Representing a capital advisory company in a DIS arbitration (post M&A dispute);
  • Assisting in an ICC arbitration relating to the construction of power lines and substations in the Middle East;
  • Assisting in a SCAI arbitration concerning the resupply of components for electropneumatic systems;
  • Assisting in an UNCITRAL arbitration relating to an electricity construction project.
