Mayer Brown announced today that it has appointed partner Zachary Barnett (Chicago) as leader of its global Fund Finance practice.
Mr. Barnett’s new role will further strengthen Mayer Brown’s prominent position as a leader and innovator in the subscription credit facility and broader fund finance market. Mr. Barnett leads his other Fund Finance partners, including Kiel Bowen and Timothy Hicks (both Charlotte), Todd Bundrant and Kristin Rylko (both Chicago) and Ann Richardson Knox (New York), in their collective goals of providing consistent and superior client service to fund and lending clients alike while also continuing Mayer Brown’s long tradition of industry advocacy in this space. To ensure those goals are achieved, Mr. Barnett will manage a team that includes those six named partners and 17 associates and counsel, who devote all of their time to handling fund finance matters, as well as numerous other lawyers who contribute to the practice’s specialty requirements. Collectively, the group is one of the largest groups in the US market. The lawyers in the practice have worked on some of the world’s largest and most complex private equity fund financings.
“Over the last five years, Mayer Brown’s Fund Finance offerings have quickly grown into a strong, well-known practice with 23 lawyers,” said Mr. Barnett. “The firm’s wide range of interdisciplinary support and global reach are key supporting elements that enable us to provide the best counsel to clients on various fund finance needs. As a founding member of the practice, I am pleased to take on this new responsibility.”
Mr. Barnett primarily represents lenders and borrowers in connection with various real estate, private equity, debt, energy, infrastructure and hedge fund financings. His deep understanding of these fund vehicles has led to the development of creative fund financing structures including fund of fund and fund of hedge fund facilities, private placements, open-end fund lending structures as well as several different variations of fund aftercare facilities. Mr. Barnett has extensive experience representing both borrowers and lenders in connection with subscription facilities. He also advises commercial banking clients engaged in domestic as well as international secured and unsecured financing transactions. Additionally, Mr. Barnett serves as co-leader of Mayer Brown’s global Syndicated Lending practice, a title he shares with Banking & Finance partner David Duffee (New York).
“Zac’s new title is a reflection of the leadership role that he has already been fulfilling for several years, and he has earned the trust of his colleagues,” said Doug Doetsch, Chicago partner and co-leader of Mayer Brown’s global Banking & Finance practice.
Lawyers in Mayer Brown’s Fund Finance practice have represented the lead agent and lenders in more than 300 subscription credit facilities since 2007.
