Tahirih Justice Center honors Mayer Brown for forced marriage research

23 April 2015

Tahirih Justice Center has named Mayer Brown and Caterpillar Inc. the nonprofit’s 2014 “Corporate Partners of the Year” for investing more than 3,500 pro bono hours researching forced marriage.

Mayer Brown and Caterpillar examined laws, conditions and customs in 24 countries that may be contributing to the problem of women and girls being forced into marriage without their full and free consent. Tahirih says the research “is already having a lifesaving impact, helping [people] from the US who are facing high-stakes forced marriage situations overseas find safety, dignity, and freedom.” Summaries of the research are available via an interactive map on Tahirih’s website.

“Tahirih is leading the effort to end forced marriage, and Mayer Brown is honored to contribute to the cause by investigating what is putting women and girls across the globe at risk,” said Marc Kadish, Mayer Brown’s Director of Pro Bono Activities and Litigation Training.

Tahirih Justice Center is a nonprofit organization that works to protect immigrant women and girls from gender-based violence through legal services, advocacy, and public education programs.
