As published in the Official Gazette of November 10 and 11, 2011, the new official schedule of fees for the Brazilian Patent and Trademark Office - BPTO will become effective as of January 1, 2012, increasing the current official fees by approximately 18.5%.
The BPTO’s Commissioner will soon regulate the electronic patent applications and announce the beginning of operations of the e-Patents system.
In addition, the BPTO’s Commissioner will announce a resolution listing discounts in official fees of up to 60% for natural persons, small companies, individual businessmen, small businesses and cooperatives, as defined by law, education and research institutions, as well as non-profit organizations and government departments and agencies, in relation to their own activities.
