Mayer Brown's First Iraqi List Project Success

18 August 2008
Mayer Brown Article
Mayer Brown has successfully secured refugee status for a pro bono client in association with our involvement with The List Project to Resettle Iraqi Allies.  The client, who was a carpenter and general contractor for the US Army base in Baghdad, sought refugee status after being targeted by insurgents for his work with the US military.  He is the first of Mayer Brown's many List Project clients to arrive in the United States, and the firm will also be handling the applications for refugee status for his family.  Associate Eric Evans, a specialist in Middle Eastern studies and near-eastern languages, headed up the case.  "I was very excited to put my Arabic skills and knowledge of Arabic society to use in order to assist those who put themselves in danger for the US," he said.

The List Project, working with Mayer Brown and the law firms of Holland & Knight and Proskauer Rose, is seeking to resettle in the United States those Iraqi refugees whose lives have been threatened because of their assistance with the US military and reconstruction effort in Iraq.  Over 50 attorneys in all of Mayer Brown's US offices are participating in this effort.  More information on The List Project can be found at
