London Associate Carlos Fane concluded a successful settlement for our pro bono client, who was so pleased that he has donated part of the settlement monies to LawWorks, the pro bono organisation that referred the matter to Mayer Brown. The client developed severe renal and cardiac problems and was entitled to benefits under his employer’s permanent health insurance ("PHI") scheme. The payments stopped in April 2006, when the client was made redundant. After some considerable time and protracted negotiations between Mayer Brown and the PHI insurers, a satisfactory agreement was finally reached, with the result that the client's benefits were reinstated and the insurer agreed to the client’s claim for back payments.
