Mayer Brown Wins Favorable Settlement in Landlord/Tenant Dispute

Mayer Brown Article

Frankfurt associate Annika Bautz and partner Dr. Marco Wilhelm successfully represented an Eritrean refugee, Ms. G, in legal proceedings against her former landlord. The dispute between the parties arose when the client notified the landlord that she could no longer afford the rent, and that she would like to move out of the apartment before the end of the term of the lease agreement.  The landlord would only agree to allow early termination of the lease if Ms. G agreed to pay for certain damages which the landlord claimed were caused by her, and brought a lawsuit against Ms. G.  Annika and Marco were ultimately able to obtain an amicable settlement which was very favorable for our client and put an end to the dispute.
