Stephen Baskin is a partner in Mayer Brown's Intellectual Property practice and serves as the IP Practice Leader for the Washington DC Office. Steve focuses on patent litigation and has approximately 20 years of experience litigating complex IP matters. He serves as lead counsel in patent infringement cases and is focused on providing clients with strategic litigation and business counseling on all facets of intellectual property issues. Steve is experienced in all phases of litigation and focuses primarily on first-chair litigation and managing patent cases in district courts throughout the United States. His experience has included the representation of some of the largest and most well-known airlines, financial services institutions, technology and consumer products companies. Additionally, he is regularly involved in representing companies in disputes related to electrical, computer software, telecommunications, mechanical and business method patents. Steve also has significant first-chair experience litigating cases involving trade secret misappropriation, unfair competition and complex business disputes.
Steve has been recognized as a leading intellectual property lawyer by Chambers USA (2013) and was listed as a DC Super Lawyer (2013) for Intellectual Property Litigation. He has also been named Top 100: Washington DC Super Layers Top List in 2014, 2015 and 2016. He was also identified as one of Washington, DC’s “Best Lawyers” by Washingtonian Magazine in 2013 and as one of the up and coming “Top Lawyers” by the Washington Business Journal in 2008. Steve joined Mayer Brown from an Am Law 100 firm, where he served for five years as the Managing Partner of the DC office, and was responsible for the success and significant growth of that office. He is a recognized panel speaker on all facets of the legal industry including, specifically, the Washington DC legal market.
Steve is also very involved in the community and public affairs. He chairs the Corporate Executive Council for the American Cancer Society and serves as a Board of Director for Thanks USA and DC Appleseed.
