Scott Guetzow practices in Mayer Brown’s Property Tax Management Group as counsel in the Chicago office. He is the former Chief Deputy Commissioner of the Cook County Board of Review. Scott is a well-known, highly regarded real estate valuation and taxation professional possessing broad experience with both Chicagoland and national property tax issues. At the Cook County Board of Review, Scott directed the daily operations of the highest volume quasi-judicial tax tribunal in the US and served as chief tax judge supervising several billion dollars in market value appeals. He was the most senior judge for all Chicago Loop and Central Business District real estate with market values exceeding $10 million. Scott was unanimously appointed to serve as Chief Deputy Commissioner by three independently elected commissioners for four consecutive years running.
Earlier, in private practice, Scott secured millions of dollars in tax relief in property tax appeals, defended clients in trial and appellate court proceedings, and negotiated large property tax settlements for corporate clients.
