Matthew Williams is a senior associate in the Insurance and Reinsurance practice of the London office.
Matt joined Mayer Brown as a trainee in 2008 and, since qualifying in September 2010, Matt has advised on contentious and non-contentious insurance matters. He advises insurers in relation to policy coverage issues and assists insurers and policyholders in relation to the defence of third party claims. Matt has experience of High Court litigation and alternative dispute resolution, including mediation and without prejudice negotiation.
Professional indemnity: Matt has significant experience in defending a range of professionals against third party claims, including insurance brokers, pensions professionals, solicitors, surveyors, trustees and valuers. Matt has also advised insurers on a wide range of coverage issues, including avoidance and aggregation.
Political Risk: Matt has advised insurers in relation to coverage issues in a number of a political risk matters, often with multi-jurisdictional aspects, involving risks in Europe, South-East Asia and the Middle East.
Financial Institutions: Matt has advised insurers on coverage aspects of claims brought against financial institutions, both in the UK and Europe. Matt has also acted in a monitoring role in the context of a third party claim arising in the US against a large UK-based financial institution.
