Marcella Barganz

Overview

Marcella Barganz is counsel in the Legal Risk Management group in Mayer Brown’s New York office. Marcella advises on risk management strategy and protocols, legal and business conflicts, technology solutions, information security policies, and professional responsibility issues that arise in the operations of Mayer Brown’s offices worldwide. She conducts risk management training for Mayer Brown, regularly works with clients to onboard their outside counsel guidelines and engagement terms with Mayer Brown, and is a member of Mayer Brown’s Technology Task Force.

Prior to this role, Marcella was a senior associate in Mayer Brown’s Banking & Finance practice in the Chicago and New York offices. She represented a broad range of firm clients in a variety of domestic and cross-border investment and finance transactions. The range of her work included international project finance and infrastructure transactions, domestic and cross-border lease financings, cross-border future cash flow securitizations, private securities offerings, and an emerging market debt restructuring.

Marcella is a member of Mayer Brown’s New York Pro Bono Committee and actively represents many pro bono clients, including individual applicants in a U Nonimmigrant Status (U Visa) case, and a civil rights organization in connection with multiple Voting Protection Hotlines and a Census Protection Hotline. She also introduced and secured Mayer Brown’s pro bono representation of a nonprofit organization that offers education and support to at-risk homeless and undocumented teens in relation to a complex financing matter, which representation was honored as Mayer Brown’s Transactional Matter of the Year in 2019.

As part of Mayer Brown’s Project Equity initiative, Marcella developed and oversees a novel youth mentoring program in partnership with The Children’s Village, a non-profit organization that serves youth who have been impacted by the child welfare or youth justice systems.

Marcella is a Co-Chair of the New York Office Women's Forum and a member of the Mayer Brown Women's Leadership Committee.

Marcella received her JD from the University of Wisconsin Law School where she was a co-editor of the Wisconsin Women’s Law Journal. She spent a semester of law school in The Netherlands at the University of Groningen Law School where she studied European Union law and European civil and commercial law. Marcella received her BA in Economics and English, summa cum laude, from St. Mary’s University. She is a past Soros Foundation Network Grant recipient.
