Ingrid Hobbs concentrates on insurance matters. Her extensive experience includes policy coverage disputes, including those involving product liability and recall insurance, cyber liability coverage, professional indemnity risks, financial institutions, technology companies, media and publishing houses and directors and officers insurance.
Ingrid advises regularly on complex policy issues regarding the validity and application of insurance contracts including investigating issues of non-disclosure, breach of warranty, misrepresentation, aggregation and allocation.
Ingrid has also represented many insured entities in litigation, arbitration and mediation where the insureds were alleged to have supplied defective products resulting in claims under Product Liability policies or recalls under Product Recall and Guarantee policies. Examples include defending a manufacturer of breast implants; defending a supplier of steel for coal wagons involving South African, English and Australian jurisdictions; defending a manufacturer of tyres following an automotive accident; advising manufacturers of parts for the automotive industry on product recalls, kitchen appliance manufacturers on recalls in the USA and a FTSE 100 company in claims involving steel ropes. She successfully defended the supplier of panels for a large development project which resulted in a multi-party mediation and advised insurers in relation to a dispute concerning allegedly defective paint on a multi-million pound development project.
Ingrid has also defended an engineering company in a claim alleging design errors in a roller coaster and the insurers of a mine following a major landslide resulting in high value claims under a public liability policy. She advised insurers in the aftermath of a number of major fires including the total destruction of a health club in west London, the total destruction of a huge storage facility in east London, and a fire at an industrial estate in the Midlands and has considerable experience of surveyors' negligence claims.
Ingrid has an extensive Professional Indemnity practice and has advised on off shore trusts claims, claims against technology companies, publishing houses, off shore law firms and motor racing claims. She successfully represented the Federation International de L'Automobile (FIA) in proceedings concerning allegations of negligence in track safety/inspection. (Wattleworth v. Goodwood Road Racing Company Ltd; RACMSA and Federation International de L'Automobile (FIA)  EWHC 140;  PIQR p25).
Many of the matters on which Ingrid has advised are multi-jurisdictional claims worldwide and she is highly experienced in dealing with foreign lawyers, brokers, experts and insurers. Her international practice has involved a broad range of jurisdictions including the USA, Germany, France, Russia, Poland, Italy, Sweden, the Czech Republic, Switzerland, South Africa, Australia, China, India, South America, the Bahamas, Jersey and Gibraltar.
