Beth Brown is a senior associate in the Pensions practice of the London office. She provides advice to trustee and employer clients on all aspects of pensions with a particular focus on pensions finance matters. Beth trained at Mayer Brown and has undertaken two secondments to the Pension Protection Fund and AstraZeneca, London. She is an active member of the cross-disciplinary pension finance practice advising on investments by pension funds and, where necessary, working closely with our banking and securities, derivatives, financial services, funds and tax teams to produce joined up advice. Her work includes negotiating a range of contracts, such as investment management agreements (discretionary, non discretionary, fiduciary and industry wide templates), ISDAs and custody agreements, as well as advising on proposed investments in various types of fund, trustees' investment duties and scheme documentation. Most notably, Beth worked with our securities team to advise the trustee board of the Total UK Pension Plan on the collateral arrangements securing the insurance of £1.6 billion of pension liabilities by Pensions Insurance Corporation, which is the second largest UK bulk annuity transaction to date.
Beth is also an active member in the industry. She regularly speaks at events, such as the Association of Pension Lawyers' Investment Essentials Course and Pension Management Institute ("PMI") seminars in addition to providing bespoke training to clients on various topics including fiduciary management arrangements and investment duties of trustees. She regularly writes for internal and external publications such as International Corporate Rescue and Engaged Investor. She is also a member of the PMI's Awards in Pension Trusteeship Committee and she is a founding member of the committee responsible for establishing and developing the new PMI DC Governance exam as well as a co-author of the study manual.
