Andrew Westlake is a partner in the London office of Mayer Brown's Insurance & Reinsurance practice. He joined Mayer Brown in 2006 having worked for another leading international legal practice. His practice includes both High Court litigation in London and international arbitration under the rules of the LCIA and ICC.
Andrew has extensive experience in advising the political risk and trade credit market in relation to the adjustment and defence of claims under all types of political risk and trade credit policies, including confiscation (CEND), contract frustration, unfair calling of bonds, political violence, trade disruption and trade credit policies. He has handled claims involving investments into or trade in Latin America, Africa, the Middle East, Asia and the former Soviet Union. He also assists clients in the drafting of political risk and trade credit policies. Andrew has also represented marine insurers in relation to a number of large, complex claims involving a political element.
Andrew also handles a wide range of professional indemnity matters, including claims brought against solicitors, insurance and reinsurance brokers, offshore service providers, accountants and auctioneers. He also advises insurers on policy coverage issues in relation to those claims.
