Sophie Bornstein is a legal & regulatory advisor in the Product Regulatory team of Mayer Brown's Brussels office.

Sophie has in-depth knowledge of EU Chemicals Regulations and assists companies managing their regulatory compliance by providing legal and regulatory support. She advises clients on managing SIEF and data sharing requirements, as well as supports companies, consortium and trade associations on matters arising from the implementation of REACH, such as fair and non-discriminatory cost sharing, consortia management, registration or licensing rights. Sophie advises clients on drafting and negotiating specific terms and conditions of agreements relating to REACH (consortia, SIEF, data access, only representative). She also has extensive contract management experience and helps companies craft agreements that protect their legal interests while taking into account the impact on their business.

Prior to joining Mayer Brown, Sophie was the legal and regulatory manager of the International association representing the downstream Oil industry in Europe (Concawe). She has deep knowledge of managing SIEF and REACH compliance as she developed the consortium-like framework which supports oil industry companies in Europe manage their regulatory compliance since 2008. Sophie has been an active contributor to ECHA Guidance development on data sharing as well as to the related EU Commission Implementing Regulation. She was also involved in advocacy work on behalf of Concawe, through her work on the legal and regulatory issues associated with Compliance Checks, Testing Proposals and Dossier Evaluation. She represented the industry at ECHA and Member States meetings on petroleum substances and was involved in developing a read-across/category approach for these substances under REACH. She speaks English and French fluently and has a basic knowledge of German.
