Matthew Waring is a Litigation & Dispute Resolution associate in Mayer Brown’s Washington DC office and a member of the firm’s Supreme Court & Appellate practice. He joined the firm in 2013. Matt focuses his practice on brief writing and legal analysis and guidance, particularly in antitrust, class action, and cybersecurity/data privacy matters. He has briefed numerous complex issues for clients in appellate and trial courts around the country and has participated in filing over 30 briefs at the United States Supreme Court. He has argued before the Seventh and Ninth Circuits.

From 2014 to 2015, Matt served as law clerk to the Honorable Jay S. Bybee of the US Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. He received his JD from Stanford Law School, where he was elected Senior Articles Editor of the Stanford Law Review and received the Urban A. Sontheimer First-Year Honor for the Class of 2013, awarded to the student with the highest cumulative grade score at the end of the first year. During law school, he was a member of Stanford’s Supreme Court Litigation Clinic and interned with the office of the US Attorney for the District of Connecticut.
