Overview

José Caicedo regularly represents states, state entities, international organizations, foreign investors and companies in international arbitrations (ICC, ICSID, LMAA, UNCITRAL). He counsels clients on public international law and provides guidance on a vast range of sectors, including oil and gas, mining, press distribution, telecommunication, arms procurements, banking, transportation industries and the food industry. He has also acted before French courts in international law issues.

In addition to his native Spanish and French, José is fluent in English and Portuguese.

Experience

Acted as counsel on behalf of :

  • A UK investor in three related ICSID Arbitrations against the European Union, Denmark and Germany arising from a EU regulation in the energy sector.
  • Veolia Environnement and its Lithuanian subsidiary, Vilnius Energy, in a major victory in a large, high-stakes arbitration against the Municipality of Vilnius and the municipally-owned Vilniaus Šilumos Tinklai over a contract for the modernization and operation of the municipal heating network of the city of Vilnius.
  • Veolia Environnement in an ICSID Arbitration against Italy arising concerning concessions in Tuscany and Calabria to treat waste and generate electricity.
  • The Republic of India in a UNCITRAL-PCA Arbitration against a Korean company concerning a gas power plant.
  • The Kingdom of Morocco in a successful ICSID Arbitration against Scholz Holding GmbH concerning import and export restrictions.
