Jim Williams is a Financial Services Regulatory & Enforcement associate in Mayer Brown's Washington DC office. He has experience assisting institutions with a variety of regulatory, enforcement, and transactional matters arising under federal and state consumer finance laws, including the Equal Credit Opportunity Act, Fair Credit Reporting Act, Fair Housing Act, Real Estate Settlement Procedures Act, Restore Online Shoppers’ Confidence Act, Servicemembers Civil Relief Act, Truth in Lending Act, and prohibitions against unfair, deceptive, and abusive acts and practices (UDAAPs), among others. Jim has also assisted clients with issues related to student lending, auto finance, fintech, payment systems, and preemption.

In addition to his consumer finance work, Jim has counseled institutions regarding issues arising under banking, data privacy, commodities, and securities laws, including the National Bank Act, Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act, Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act, Commodity Exchange Act, and Securities Exchange Act.

Prior to joining the firm, Jim was an associate at another international law firm where his practice focused on the regulation and structuring of complex derivatives. During law school, Jim interned with the Securities and Exchange Commission and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission, and he also participated in the Harrison Affordable Housing Transactions Clinic at Georgetown Law.
