Overview

Evan Wooten serves as Counsel in Mayer Brown’s Los Angeles office, focusing on data privacy, disability law, consumer class action defense, and actions by public officials and government enforcement bodies. Evan is an experienced civil litigator and also assists clients in crafting contracts, policies, and terms of use to minimize litigation and government investigations. Evan is a member of Mayer Brown's cybersecurity and data privacy practice and consumer class action group.

Evan has particular expertise in the fields of telecommunications, website and architectural accessibility, fair housing, false claims, false advertising, unfair competition, foreign commerce, and consumer protection. Evan has advised clients in a wide array of industries, from a wide array of countries, including Argentina, Brazil, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Germany, the Netherlands, and Mexico. Prior to practicing law, Evan served as assistant financial controller for a global management consulting company, ensuring compliance with federal regulations and contracts.

Evan joined Mayer Brown in 2006, after graduating order of the coif from the Marshall Wythe School of Law at the College of William & Mary in Virginia, where he served as an editor for the William & Mary Law Review. Evan received his Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy from the University of Virginia in 2001. Evan is a long-standing member of Mayer Brown’s recruitment and mentorship programs.

  • Represented a major financial institution in investigations by HUD and the North Carolina state housing authority, alleging design and construction defects in a mixed-used commercial-residential property

  • Represented supergraphic sign companies in actions by the Los Angeles City Attorney concerning unfair competition and free speech rights
  • Represented certified fraud examiner in false claims dispute with the U.S. Government before the Eighth Circuit Court of Appeal
