Alys Jones is a senior associate in the Insurance & Reinsurance practice of the London office. She joined Mayer Brown in 2014, having previously worked for another international law firm.

Alys has advised in relation to a broad range of contentious and non-contentious matters. She is experienced in defending claims against professionals and advising insurers in relation to policy coverage issues and disputes under a variety of lines of insurance. In particular, this experience has included:

Professional Indemnity/Professional Liability: Alys has experience defending a wide range of professionals against third party claims, including solicitors (both in the United Kingdom and off-shore), barristers, valuers and software developers. These claims have involved complex corporate and property transactions, trust structures, tax planning and tax mitigation schemes. She also advises on coverage issues. Alys has been involved with proceedings in the High Court, the Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court, including acting for insurers in their successful appeal to the Supreme Court in Impact Funding Solutions Limited v AIG Europe Insurance Ltd [2016] UKSC 57.

Financial Institutions/D&O: Alys has advised primary and excess layer insurers on a range of policy issues, including non-disclosure, misrepresentation, attachment and aggregation. As well as experience of defending claims brought against directors, including claims of unfair prejudice, Alys has regularly acted as monitoring counsel in the context of civil proceedings and regulatory investigations involving insured clients (including private equity firms and large listed companies), in a range of different jurisdictions, most notably the US.

Political Risk/Trade Credit: Alys advises insurers on political risk and trade credit policy disputes and has assisted with claims emanating from Ukraine, Yemen, Libya and Iraq.

Warranty & Indemnity: Alys has experience advising insurers on claims under warranty and indemnity policies.
