Alvan L. Bobrow is a partner in the New York office of Mayer Brown's Tax Transactions & Consulting practice and is the leader of the national, state, and local group.
Alvan concentrates his practice on multistate tax matters, handling civil and criminal tax matters and providing counsel to international companies locating in the United States. He also has extensive experience with New York State and New York City tax matters.
He is a proven innovator in business and legal issues relating to the rapidly evolving entertainment, media, financial services and electronic commerce industries. Prior to joining Mayer Brown, he was a partner in a prominent New York law firm and was Vice President and General Tax Counsel for CBS Inc. He has substantial experience working with senior government officials and legislative committees across the country to develop statutory provisions, regulations and administrative solutions to complex business problems. He is credited as the principal drafter of the national multistate income apportionment rules for broadcasters. Through his experiences, Alvan has developed broad, practical knowledge in tax and business issues encountered in both service and manufacturing companies in all areas of federal, international, as well as state and local taxes. He regularly advises international and domestic businesses on treaty permanent establishment issues and constitutional nexus issues. His criminal defense practice focuses on the investigations of both individuals and businesses and handles matters related to tax fraud, unreported income and tax shelter abuses.
