Overview
Alexus B. Payton is a Litigation & Dispute Resolution associate in Mayer Brown’s Los Angeles office. Alexus’s practice experience includes matters focusing on health care regulation, real estate litigation, data privacy litigation, and complex civil litigation, including contractual disputes and class actions in the fields of false advertising and labor and employment. Alexus’s practice experience also includes corporate and securities where she has assisted with US and international commercial contracts, cross-border M&A, and general corporate governance.

In addition, Alexus has experience drafting demurrers, ex parte applications, responding to discovery requests, guiding document production teams, and reviewing electronically stored information and aiding in fact development.

Alexus is also dedicated to pro bono projects. She is knowledgeable on matters focusing on prison litigation including parole reconsideration hearings and Proposition 36 proceedings. Alexus coordinates with experts, advises clients, and drafts briefs including a reply brief to the United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit.

Prior to joining Mayer Brown in 2017, Alexus graduated from Berkeley Law at the University of California, Berkeley. While attending law school, she interned at the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office and also instructed courses in Philosophy of Law and Criminal Law & Procedure at juvenile correctional facilities in Northern California. Prior to law school, she received a Bachelor of Arts degree in English Literature and a minor in Philosophy from Loyola Marymount University, in Los Angeles. Alexus is also conversational in Spanish.
