Xiaoyan Zhang spoke at the seventh IP Salon hosted by Shanghai Lung Tin Law Firm on 16 October 2015 in Shanghai. The seminar entitled, "Patent Litigation in the US and China", was a comparative study of China-US patent litigation, and was attended by 12 patent attorneys including patent counsels from Bosch and IPS. Lung Tin, a leading IP boutique law firm in China, hosts a monthly salon by inviting IP experts to speak on hot topics that are of interest to Chinese companies.
During the three-hour session, Xiaoyan first looked at several milestones of the development of the patent laws in China and the US, before proceeding to present statistics and diagrams to show the current patent activities in both countries, as well as providing her observations of the trends and gaps. She then compared patent litigation systems in both jurisdictions in terms of procedures, timelines, costs, and remedies. Finally, she provided general strategic tips for litigating patents in both jurisdictions.
Lung Tin's partner Xiaobing Wang concluded the session with a summary on the two systems The intimate session was highly interactive with active participation from the audience, and many questions raised.
