Washington DC Office Tops Legal Aid's Fundraising List
5 November 2007
The Legal Aid Society of the District of Columbia recognized Mayer Brown's Washington office as the largest contributor of any law office in its size category in connection with the organization's 2007 Generous Associates Campaign. The Washington office donated more than $17,000, helping Legal Aid exceed its fundraising goal of $600,000.
Legal Aid's Generous Associates Campaign is an annual fundraising event that is organized, led, and driven by associates at law firms throughout the city. Legal Aid is funded primarily by individuals, law firms, and foundations, with the Associates Campaign accounting for approximately 25% of the organization's total annual budget. Donations from the Generous Associates Campaign allow Legal Aid - Washington's oldest and largest civil legal services program - to continue to provide free legal services to the neediest members of the Washington community in the areas of family law, housing, and public benefits.
"At Mayer Brown, we seek not only to engage our lawyers in an atmosphere where pro bono is an important part of firm life, but also to set a standard of giving for other law firms. The Generous Associates Campaign is an invaluable asset for our legal community and we are glad to be a part of it," commented Marcia Maack, assistant director of pro bono activities in the Washington DC office.
This year, Mayer Brown's fundraising efforts were coordinated by associates Mike Paisner and Megan Wernke, and donations came from associates, partners, paralegals, staff, and the firm itself.
