8 May 2007
7 May 2007 - Mayer, Brown, Rowe & Maw LLP is pleased to announce the appointment of Frederick B. (Fritz) Thomas, 57, to Partner-In-Charge of the firm's Chicago office, its largest office with more than 500 lawyers. Thomas will replace Julian C. D'Esposito, Jr., 62, who is continuing as a member of the Government and Global Trade Practice and who will also serve as Secretary of the firm-wide management committee.
In 2002 D'Esposito became the firm's first Partner-In-Charge of the Chicago office; previously that role was undertaken by the firm's managing partner. "We're grateful that Julian stepped up to the Partner-In-Charge role some five years ago, and he's done a tremendous job during that time," said Ty Fahner, chairman of Mayer, Brown, Rowe & Maw. Echoed chairman-elect James D. Holzhauer, "The Chicago office as well as the firm at large has benefited from the creation of this position and Julian's tenure. Among other responsibilities, he oversaw the design, construction and move into our new Chicago offices."
Holzhauer continued, "His organizational skills, wisdom and character are regularly seen and appreciated by all of us and we are pleased that he will be using those talents for the firm as a whole."
D'Esposito will also continue his practice representing several major Chicago-area governmental bodies and private clients in transactions and infrastructure matters.
Fritz Thomas joined Mayer, Brown, Rowe & Maw in 1975 after graduating from the University of Chicago Law School and clerking for a federal judge. With the exception of a three-year period during which he served in the firm's London office, he has practiced in the Chicago office throughout his career. Thomas serves on the firm-wide management committee and has served as a firm-wide practice leader for the firm's corporate practice. His practice focuses on mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures and other transactions and on advising boards of directors and management regarding corporate governance, securities and other matters.
Thomas's work has been recognized in publications and listings such as Chambers Global, Chambers USA, Who's Who Legal USA, Who's Who Legal Illinois, Best Lawyers in America, BTI Client Service All-Stars and Illinois Super Lawyers.
"Fritz is a distinguished attorney and well suited to be the Partner-In-Charge of Chicago," chairman-elect Holzhauer commented. "He has played an instrumental role within his practice group, and his leadership skills will be great assets to the Chicago office and the firm."
Said Thomas, "I look forward to my new role in growing Mayer, Brown, Rowe & Maw in Chicago, while ensuring we continue to provide our clients with unparalleled service and counsel."
