Mayer Brown, a leading global law firm, announced the promotion of four lawyers to partner, effective immediately.
“These four exceptional lawyers have earned their promotions by demonstrating outstanding legal skills in their practice area and a commitment to the highest standard of client service, which are defining characteristics of Mayer Brown,” said Herbert W. Krueger, chairman. “We congratulate them on this important milestone in their legal career and welcome them as members of the partnership.”
The new partners are:
Zachary K. Barnett, Banking & Finance, Chicago
Mr. Barnett primarily represents open-end and closed-end real estate, debt and private equity funds in subscription loan and other secured and unsecured financings. He provides representation and counsel to commercial banks in negotiating and documenting secured lending arrangements. He also advises commercial banking clients engaged in international financing transactions and provides counsel to corporate clients, including casinos and companies in the entertainment and lodging industries. He joined Mayer Brown in 2002 and is a graduate of Northwestern University School of Law.
Frank A. Falbo, Corporate & Securities, Chicago
Mr. Falbo concentrates his practice on the structuring of various types of private investment funds, including real estate, infrastructure and private equity funds. He also is experienced in structuring complex joint ventures. He joined Mayer Brown in 2005 after clerking for Judge Frederick J. Kapala in the Illinois Appellate Court, Second District. He graduated magna cum laude from Loyola University Chicago School of Law.
Lee Morlock, Tax Transactions, Chicago
Mr. Morlock’s practice focuses on international tax issues, including tax planning for US and foreign corporations on acquisitions, divestitures and other corporate restructuring transactions, and representing borrowers and lenders in connection with the tax aspects of financing transactions. He joined Mayer Brown in 2004 and graduated magna cum laude from Harvard Law School.
Ben Sandstad, Banking & Finance, Hong Kong
Mr. Sandstad is experienced in structuring and documenting securitizations and capital markets transactions, structured finance transactions and derivative products across the Asia Pacific. Having practiced law in Hong Kong, Tokyo and Australia, he has acted for all types of market participants in domestic and international debt markets transactions involving a wide range of jurisdictions, financing structures, underlying assets and recourse basis, including in defaulted and stressed scenarios and restructurings. He joined Mayer Brown JSM in 2010 and holds a law degree from the University of Sydney.
