Mayer Brown names Michael E. Lackey, Jr.,
Partner-in-Charge of its Washington, DC office

Washington, DC, 13 January, 2012 – Mayer Brown, a leading global law firm, has appointed litigator Michael E. Lackey as Partner-in-Charge of its Washington, DC office.  He succeeds Mark W. Ryan, who has joined the United States Department of Justice in the newly created role of Director of Litigation for the Antitrust Division.

“Mike has been a key member of our Litigation & Dispute Resolution practice for more than 15 years and is nationally recognized for his knowledge of electronic discovery issues,” said Mayer Brown Chairman Herbert W. Krueger. “He also has served in a variety of management roles at the firm, including as a member of our Partnership Board, a co-leader of our Litigation & Dispute Resolution practice in Washington, DC and a co-leader of the firm’s Electronic Discovery & Records Management group. The combination of his proven legal and management skills made him the ideal choice to lead our Washington, DC office.”

Mr. Lackey’s practice focuses on civil and criminal litigation and electronic discovery. He has represented major companies and individuals in state and federal proceedings and in grand jury proceedings and governmental investigations. Mr. Lackey serves as a member of the Board of Advisors to the Georgetown University Law School Advanced E-Discovery Institute and is a member of The Sedona Conference® Working Group on Electronic Document Retention and Production.

Mr. Lackey joined Mayer Brown in 1995 after receiving a JD degree with high honors from The George Washington University Law School and clerking for the Honorable Jacques Wiener, Jr., of the US Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit.   He was named a partner in 2002. 

Prior to entering the legal profession, Mr. Lackey was a lieutenant in the US Navy and graduated from the “Top Gun” school for Navy fighter pilots. He also holds a degree in aeronautical and astronautical engineering from Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
