18 March 2010 – Mayer Brown, a leading global law firm, was named “North American Infrastructure Law Firm of the Year” for 2009 in the inaugural InfrastructureInvestor Awards. More than 35,000 votes cast by the publication’s readers determined the award recipients in more than 40 categories across regions including North America, Europe, Asia, Africa, Latin America and the Middle East.
“This award is a tribute to the widespread reputation of Mayer Brown’s market-leading infrastructure practice,” said partner John Schmidt. “We are honored to be recognized by InfrastructureInvestor for our groundbreaking infrastructure work.”
In the United States, Mayer Brown is the leading law firm in private investment in infrastructure assets, having advised on most of the major US transactions completed to date. The firm served as counsel on the privatization of the Chicago Skyway, the Indiana Toll Road, the Northwest Parkway (Colorado) and the Chicago Downtown Public Parking System. The firm is now involved in major transactions involving private investment in ports, airports and transit systems, as well as continuing work in roads and parking systems. Ongoing work is “solidifying the firm’s lead as advisor on precedent-setting transactions,” noted InfrastructureInvestor.
“These awards represent the firms, funds and deals that best survived 2009’s turbulent financial and economic conditions,” said Bruno Alves, a writer for InfrastructureInvestor. “They also showcase those who thrived because of them.”
