1 July 2008
1 July 2008 - Leading international law firm Mayer Brown has teamed up with top disability organisation EmployAbility, which assists people with disabilities into employment, and has successfully recruited four students onto their summer work experience programme.

EmployAbility, a not-for-profit organisation, works with anyone with a disability seeking employment and with leading global employers. They work predominantly with university undergraduates/ graduates and have strong links with universities, other disability organisations and key stakeholders.

Mayer Brown is the first and currently only law firm to be running a summer vacation scheme with EmployAbility and via the organisation have recruited 4 students for this summer's scheme. Students will spend three weeks at the firm in two different fee-earning departments. They will also have the opportunity to participate in a number of seminars and trips, including to Brussels and to the Law Courts in London.

Annette Sheridan, Director of HR at Mayer Brown said: "The diversity of our staff is critical to our success as a global law firm in attracting and retaining the best lawyers and a diverse client base worldwide. We are proud to be the first law firm to work with EmployAbility and look forward to welcoming the four students to our work experience programme this summer. The over-subscribed work experience schemes offers students a comprehensive insight into a career as a lawyer at Mayer Brown and proves very popular."

Our aim is to change hearts and minds in the City to enable students/ graduates with disabilities to obtain exposure and experience to the same career opportunities as their non-disabled peers. Mayer Brown recognises that widening accessibility to opportunities to attract disabled and other diverse candidates makes business sense, enabling them to recruit talent from the widest possible pool. We hope that other law firms and city institutions will follow Mayer Brown's lead.]

Mayer Brown runs three work experience programmes, one at Easter and two in the summer, with 36 places available each year.
