25 August 2009 – Mayer Brown, a leading global law firm, announced today that Los Angeles partner Ricardo Gonzalez has relocated to the firm’s São Paulo office, which opened in December 2007 and is the firm’s first office in Latin America.
Mr. Gonzalez has significant international debt and equity capital markets experience across a range of industries, including telecommunications, energy, financial services and real estate. Before joining Mayer Brown in Los Angeles in 2006, he practiced in the Madrid, London, Hong Kong and New York offices of Davis Polk & Wardwell.
Mr. Gonzalez’s practice focuses primarily on cross-border securities offerings and M&A transactions. He regularly represents issuers and underwriters in connection with public and private offerings of debt and equity securities by Latin American, European (particularly Spanish), Asian and US issuers. He also advises clients on 1934 Act reporting, corporate governance and other general corporate matters.
“Ricardo will be a great addition to our office,” said Mayer Brown partner Stephen Hood, Partner-in-Charge of the São Paulo office. “His debt and equity securities and cross-border M&A experience will be an important asset to both companies and underwriters involved in pursuing a securities offering or acquisition.”
“I look forward to working with Stephen and the São Paulo team, as well as other Mayer Brown lawyers active in the region, to grow the office and the Latin American practice,” Mr. Gonzalez said.
“São Paulo is the ideal base from which to put my skills and experience to work for our clients.”
Significant transactions Mr. Gonzalez has worked on at Mayer Brown in 2009 include:
- a US$707 million secondary offering of common shares for Light S.A., a leading Brazilian electricity company; and
- a US$750 million offering of Senior Notes for Telemar Norte Leste S.A., a leading Brazilian telecommunications services provider.
Mr. Gonzalez is fluent in Spanish and proficient in Portuguese and is a graduate of Harvard College and New York University School of Law.
