Mayer Brown assists TeliaSonera International Carrier with the sale of part of its UK fibre optic network

18 October 2007 - The corporate team of international law firm Mayer Brown has assisted TeliaSonera International Carrier UK Ltd ("TISC") in connection with the sale of a 1,100km portion of its UK fibre optic network to Scottish and Southern Energy plc ("SSE").Malin Frenning, Senior Vice President and Head of Wholesale & International Carrier, Business Area Broadband Services, TeliaSonera, said: "TeliaSonera International Carrier is focused on being a leading global provider of cross border wholesale IP, voice and capacity services. In order to prioritise on selling these services, we have decided to divest the national UK network outside the London-Reading metro area."
James Sullivan, senior corporate legal counsel at TISC, co-ordinated the transaction working with, and assisted by, Mayer Brown's London corporate team which was led by Robert Bratby and included tax partner James Hill.
TeliaSonera is a leading global telecommunications company. SSE is one of the largest UK energy companies and the transaction will extend the network owned and operated by SSE's telecoms subsidiary, Neos Networks.
The SSE team was co-ordinated by in-house senior legal adviser Liz Tanner, assisted by Dundas & Wilson LLP.
