London - Leading global law firm Mayer Brown announced the hire of Colin Scagell to the Corporate & Securities practice and Insurance Industry Group in London. Colin joins today as a partner from Debevoise & Plimpton.

Colin focuses on the insurance sector and has advised on many of the market leading insurance transactions of the past decade at Debevoise & Plimpton, and previously at Ashurst. Colin has particular experience of cross-border public transactions including takeovers, listings and secondary securities offerings.

Deals in which he has been closely involved have included acting for The Hanover Group in its recent acquisition of Chaucer and Benfield in its merger with Aon.  Colin has also regularly advised London listed (re) - insurers including Catlin, Hardy, Novae and Omega.

Colin's appointment adds further depth to the firm's Corporate Insurance expertise in London, following the hire of leading Corporate Insurance partner Martin Mankabady in 2008.

Sean Connolly, senior partner at Mayer Brown in London, said: "Colin's appointment supports our commitment to continuing to invest in this important area both in London and globally."

Peter Dickinson, head of the Corporate group, said: "Colin will add breadth and depth to our Corporate Insurance group which is a significant part of our Corporate practice in London."

Colin Scagell said:  "Mayer Brown has an excellent Corporate Insurance team in London, led by Martin Mankabady, and a very strong global group acting for many clients in the insurance sector. Mayer Brown is committed to growing further this part of the business which makes it an exciting time to join the firm.  I am particularly keen to develop and integrate Mayer Brown's ability to serve clients across the London, Bermuda and US markets."
