Mayer Brown Scores International Trade Victory

17 October 2007
17 October 2007 - Lawyers in Mayer Brown's Washington, DC office recently scored a major victory in a contentious international trade action before the U.S. Department of Commerce.  On behalf of two Chinese exporters and their U.S. importers, the firm's Global Trade Group was able to lower a 139.49 percent ad valorem antidumping duty on U.S. imports of silicon metal to below eight percent.  The duty had been in place for more than 15 years.

Duane Layton, one of the leaders of Mayer Brown's Government and Global Trade Practice, was not surprised by the result, which was announced on 10 October 2007.  "We are fortunate to have as part of our team both in Washington and Brussels some of the most talented and experienced international trade lawyers in the world.  It was a team effort that produced significant results for our clients. We couldn't be happier," said Layton.
