Mayer Brown Partner Mary Richardson-Lowry named
to “Women of Excellence” list by Chicago Defender

20 April 2010 – Mary Richardson-Lowry, a partner in the Government & Global Trade practice in the Chicago office of leading global law firm Mayer Brown, is one of 50 Chicago women honored as “Women of Excellence” by the Chicago Defender, the leading daily newspaper serving Chicago’s African-American community.

The “Women of Excellence” award  acknowledges and celebrates African-American women who personify the exemplary qualities of respect, responsibility, passion, sisterhood and leadership. 

Earlier this year, Ms. Richardson-Lowry was chosen as the new president of the Chicago Board of Education, following her nomination to that role  by Chicago Mayor Richard M. Daley. 

“I am honored and humbled to  serve as President of the Chicago Board of Education,” Ms. Richardson-Lowry said.  “I look forward to joining the pursuit of  excellence within the Chicago public education system.  I am also grateful to be recognized, both by city leaders and the Chicago Defender, for my contributions to the community.”

Ms. Richardson-Lowry has been a partner at Mayer Brown for eight years and will continue in that role throughout her term on the board of education.  She  also is chairman of the firm’s Committee on Diversity and Inclusion.  She previously served in the Daley administration as building commissioner and assistant corporation counsel.
