Mayer Brown Lawyers Win Section 8 Benefits for Pro Bono Client

30 September 2010

On September 30, 2010, the New York City Housing Authority (“NYCHA”) granted reinstatement of Section 8 benefits to our pro bono client as well as reimbursement for all of the Section 8 subsidy payments withheld since NYCHA’s erroneous termination of our client’s Section 8 benefits.  Our client has multiple physical ailments and supports her son entirely on her very limited income as a home healthcare attendant; without the Section 8 subsidy, our client and her son faced immediate eviction and near-certain homelessness.  NYCHA terminated the subsidy without notice or due process. The court granted the TRO and NYCHA subsequently agreed to settle the case in our client’s favor.

The matter was referred to Mayer Brown through the Legal Aid Society.
