Elizabeth Mann recognized as one of the “Top 100 Women Litigators in California”

14 May 2010

14 May, 2010 – Mayer Brown partner Elizabeth Mann was named by The Daily Journal as one of the “Top 100 Litigators in California.” In selecting Elizabeth, the publication cited her diverse complex commercial litigation practice, which includes matters ranging from real estate to environmental law.

“Elizabeth is an outstanding attorney and we are very proud of her for this well-deserved recognition,” said Philip R. Recht, Partner-in-Charge of Mayer Brown’s Los Angeles office. “Since joining Mayer Brown in January, she has been a significant asset to the firm, and this award is a fine acknowledgment of the quality of her work and commitment to client service.”

The Daily Journal noted two significant victories in naming Elizabeth to this year’s list.  First, she secured a complete dismissal on behalf of her client, E.ON AG and its subsidiaries, in a toxic tort action in which 100 plaintiffs sought hundreds of millions of dollars in compensation for personal injuries and property damage resulting from extensive contamination of a local military weapons testing facility operated by the lead defendant, Wyle Laboratories.

In the second case, Elizabeth obtained groundbreaking relief for eight low-income families against a slumlord who tried to avoid rent control laws by encouraging “voluntary” evictions. She successfully brought the matter to the attention of the Safe Housing Division of the Los Angeles City Attorney’s office, which ultimately indicted the slum lord for criminal violations.
