Mayer Brown becomes National Cyber Security Awareness Month Champion

30 September 2015

Mayer Brown today announced that it has become a Champion of National Cyber Security Awareness Month (NCSAM) 2015, an initiative sponsored by the National Cyber Security Alliance. As an official Champion, the firm recognizes its commitment to cybersecurity and online safety and joins a growing global effort among businesses, government agencies, colleges and universities, associations, nonprofit organizations and individuals to promote online safety awareness.

Reflecting the importance of cybersecurity to our nation, October has been presidentially-designated as NCSAM since 2004. A collaborative effort between government and industry, NCSAM is designed to engage and educate public and private sector partners through events and initiatives with the goal of raising awareness about cybersecurity and increasing the resiliency of the nation in the event of a cyber incident. Mayer Brown’s global Cybersecurity & Data Privacy practice is hosting several client-focused initiatives in conjunction with NCSAM, including conferences, panel discussions and teleconferences focused on cybersecurity issues.

Raj De, global leader of the Cybersecurity & Data Privacy practice and former General Counsel of the National Security Agency said, “Now, more than ever, businesses must think strategically about the cyber threats they face—whether to consumer or employee information, intellectual property, or product safety—and take practical steps to address associated business, legal and reputational risks. We are proud to support the government’s commitment to NCSAM.”

Mayer Brown’s global Cybersecurity & Data Privacy practice is composed of experienced lawyers from a range of disciplines, including regulatory, government and global trade, intellectual property, litigation, financial services regulation and enforcement, employment and business & technology sourcing. Lawyers in the practice work with financial institutions, insurance, health care, technology, retail, manufacturing, and other clients to help them contend with the full range of domestic, international and cross-border data privacy and security obligations, including privacy and data security programs, breach response plans, notification policies, strategies for minimizing adverse consequences that may arise from litigation or governmental actions following a breach incident, privacy regulatory compliance, global data transfers in transactions and management of third parties with access to data.
