Mayer Brown partner William Michael Jr. inducted as a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers

Mayer Brown announced that William Michael Jr., Chicago-based partner in the Litigation & Dispute Resolution practice and co-leader of the White Collar Defense & Compliance, Global Anti-Corruption & FCPA and Health Care practices, has been inducted as a Fellow into the American College of Trial Lawyers (ACTL), joining a highly select group of trial lawyers in one of the nation’s premier legal associations.
After careful investigation, the ACTL extends fellowships by invitation only to experienced trial lawyers who have mastered the art of advocacy and whose professional careers have been marked by the highest standards of trial advocacy, ethical conduct, integrity, professionalism and collegiality. To qualify for the honor, lawyers must have a minimum of 15 years of trial experience. ACTL Fellows comprise no more than 1 percent of total lawyers.
A highly experienced trial attorney with more than 100 jury trials throughout the country, Mr. Michael focuses on federal white collar, regulatory defense matters and complex civil litigation. He represents both individuals and corporations in these matters, including: criminal antitrust, health care, securities fraud, criminal tax, False Claims Act, money laundering, conspiracy, environmental and FCPA, as well as complex internal investigations.
Before entering private practice, Mr. Michael had a distinguished career in public service, including 10 years with the US Department of Justice (DOJ) as an Assistant US Attorney in both the Southern District of Florida and the District of Minnesota. While with the DOJ, he was an instructor in trial advocacy skills at the National Advocacy Center, teaching new federal prosecutors in courtroom skills. In addition, while at the DOJ he served as a National & International Security Coordinator and Terrorism Coordinator. Mr. Michael also was a member of the US Army Special Forces (Green Berets), commanding a Special Forces “A” team and served as a judge advocate.
The American College of Trial Lawyers is a professional association of trial lawyers from the United States, Canada and Puerto Rico and is widely considered to be the premier professional trial organization in America. Founded in 1950, The College is dedicated to maintaining and improving the standards of trial practice, the administration of justice and the ethics of the profession. Through its Board of Regents, its general committees and its state and province committees, the College engages in a wide variety of activities to further those purposes. Mr. Michael joins Mayer Brown partners Vince Connelly, James Ferguson, Ty Fahner, Lee Abrahams and Mike Feagley in the ACTL.
