International Financial Law Review (IFLR) named Mayer Brown “Structured Finance and Securitization Team of the Year” at the 2016 IFLR Americas Awards. The awards are based “solely on legal innovation” and recognize firms and teams that “break new legal ground and set market precedents.”
Mayer Brown also advised on the transaction that IFLR named “Structured Finance and Securitization Deal of the Year.” The firm represented Merrill Lynch, Pierce, Fenner & Smith Incorporated and Credit Suisse Securities (USA) LLC as initial purchasers on the SolarCity securitization, the first-ever securitization of solar assets already financed in a tax equity partnership structure. The deal provides a new way for solar finance assets previously tied up by tax-driven partnership flip structures to be monetized through asset-backed securities. The team was led by Banking & Finance partners Carol Hitselberger (Charlotte) and Stuart Litwin (Chicago) and included Tax Transactions & Consulting partner Jeffrey Davis (Washington DC) and Banking & Finance partner Nadav Klugman (Chicago).
