— Leading global law firm Mayer Brown has advised Entertainment One Ltd on its inclusion in the FTSE 250 index, which will take effect from 23 September. The FTSE indexing is the culmination of a busy 12 months for Entertainment One, starting with the acquisition of Alliance Films and followed by its premium listing in July 2013, essential for the FTSE committee to consider a FTSE 250 inclusion.
Entertainment One is now the largest independent film distributor in the UK and Canada and is increasing its market share in other territories, rivalling that of some of the Hollywood majors. It has a combined library of more than 35,000 film and television titles including the Twilight film series, Lord of the Rings and Peppa Pig.
Robert Hamill, Corporate partner, commented: "Entertainment One has come a long way from its beginnings in 1972 in Canada as Records on Wheels, a record shop located in the back of a painted bus. Being included in the FTSE 250 Index is a fantastic milestone for Entertainment One and puts the company in a really strong position to grow further."
The Mayer Brown team was led by Corporate partner Robert Hamill and included senior associate Rebecca Bothamley and associate Frances Hull.
Mayer Brown began advising the business with its London listing on AIM in 2007, and thereafter on M&A and equity fundraisings including its acquisition of Contender, RCV and Alliance Films. They also advised Entertainment One on its step up to the main market of the London Stock Exchange in 2010 and its premium listing in July this year.
