Mayer Brown partner Marcus Christian named a 2014 Leadership Council on Legal Diversity Fellow

4 March 2014

Mayer Brown Litigation & Dispute Resolution partner Marcus Christian (Washington DC) has been selected for the 2014 Fellows Program of the Leadership Council on Legal Diversity (LCLD), a national organization made up of the legal profession’s top general counsel and managing partners of the leading US corporations and law firms.

The LCLD Fellows Program is an ambitious, highly structured initiative built to increase diversity at the leadership levels of the nation’s law firms and corporate legal departments. Over the course of the year-long program, participants will be challenged to improve their professional brand, build relationships that enhance professional development, participate in corporate learning experiences, and sharpen stewardship and leadership skills.

“I am honored to be selected for this dynamic program and remain committed to advocating for change and fostering diversity in leadership across the US legal profession,” said Mr. Christian.

“Marcus is a remarkable lawyer and person and we are proud that he will be representing Mayer Brown as he embarks on this year-long Fellows Program,” said Jeremiah DeBerry, Mayer Brown’s Director of Diversity & Inclusion.

Mr. Christian joins a class of more than 170 attorneys from around the country who have been selected as LCLD Fellows for 2014—the largest class in the program’s history.

“Our Fellows program is a unique learning experience designed to empower a new generation of lawyers,” said Brad Smith, LCLD Chair and Executive Vice President and General Counsel of Microsoft Corporation. “These talented individuals have been singled out for leadership by their organizations, and represent a broad spectrum of backgrounds that are as diverse as the country they serve.”

In addition to serving as a partner in Mayer Brown’s Litigation & Dispute Resolution practice, Mr. Christian is a member of the firm’s White Collar Defense & Compliance group. Prior to joining Mayer Brown, he served as the executive assistant United States attorney at the US Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Florida, the third-highest ranking position in one of America’s largest and busiest offices of federal prosecutors. In this role, Mr. Christian worked on the senior management team with responsibility for the Criminal, Civil, Appellate, Asset Forfeiture and Administrative Divisions. While he was an Assistant US Attorney, he prosecuted cases involving money laundering, healthcare fraud, mail fraud, wire fraud, national security issues and other matters.
