Mayer Brown partner Lori Lightfoot named to The Network Journal’s “25 Influential Black Women in Business” list for 2014

14 March 2014
Mayer Brown, a leading global law firm, announced that Litigation & Dispute Resolution partner Lori Lightfoot (Chicago) has been selected by The Network Journal as one of “25 Influential Black Women in Business” for 2014. The annual award honors African-American women across the nation whose professional achievements have significantly impacted an industry or profession, and who also have made an important contribution to their community.

The Network Journal recognized Ms. Lightfoot’s strong legal acumen and leadership qualities that make her a well-known and respected litigator in Chicago and across the US, citing her impressive career in “handling complex commercial litigation” and her skill in “developing compelling, fact-based arguments.” The publication also highlighted her ability to serve as an advocate for both clients and for those who are disadvantaged, noting that “Lightfoot pays much attention to the plight of at-risk youth,” and that “she believes it’s critical to teach children about respect, dignity, sense of community, and about thinking about things beyond yourself.”

Ms. Lightfoot is a trial attorney, investigator and risk manager and serves as co-chair of Mayer Brown’s firmwide Committee on Diversity & Inclusion. She has extensive experience in every facet of complex commercial litigation in areas including: breach of contract and business tort claims; franchisor/franchisee disputes; foreclosure actions and other real estate related litigation; and products liability actions. Ms. Lightfoot also regularly advises clients on a range of complex criminal law issues stemming from federal, state or local grand jury investigations or investigations by federal, state or local inspectors general.

Founded in 1993, The Network Journal provides news and commentary on issues that affect the growth of business and the advancement of professionals in the workplace for an audience of predominantly African-American professionals, corporate executives and small-business owners.
