Mayer Brown partner Elizabeth (Liz) Espín Stern named to the New American Leaders Project’s board of advisors

10 September 2015

Mayer Brown announced that Employment & Benefits partner Elizabeth (Liz) Espín Stern (Washington DC) has been named to the national board of advisors for the New American Leaders Project (NALP), a nonpartisan national non-profit whose mission is to prepare first- and second-generation immigrants for civic leadership. Believing that immigrants can help strengthen American democracy, the New York City-based organization recruits first- and second-generation immigrants with a track record of civic involvement and trains them in key leadership skills.

“We seek advisors who understand the importance of diversity and leadership development,” said Sayu Bhojwani, NALP’s president and founder. As an advisor, Ms. Stern will help set NALP’s strategic direction, provide legal guidance and serve as an ambassador for the organization’s work.

“This cause is close to my heart because my sisters and I are first-generation Americans, and my sons are, of course, second-generation,” said Ms. Stern, whose father was an Ecuadorian diplomat.

Ms. Stern has nearly 30 years of experience advising on US and global immigration issues and is consistently ranked as a leading business immigration lawyer by publications such as Chambers. She leads Mayer Brown’s Global Mobility & Migration practice, which offers the firm’s multinational clients in a variety of sectors a comprehensive services and risk management program in connection with their mobile workforce.
