Xiaoyan Zhang participated in a workshop, titled ‘Geotargeting and Geoblocking’ at the Licensing Executives Society International (LESI) Conference 2016, which was held during 15-18 May 2016 at China World Hotel in Beijing. The LESI Conference, hosted by Licensing Executives Society China (LESC), brings together licensing professionals from across the world to share views and address challenging issues related to licensing and technology transfer.
Xiaoyan’s workshop took place on 16 May 2016 and explored how geotargeting and geoblocking can provide a remedy to effectively implement digital rights management, as it enables website owners to differentiate their web appearance and trademark use territorially. Together with the workshop moderator, Johan Du Preez of Adams and Adams and co-speaker Dr. Stefan Völker of Gleiss Lutz, Xiaoyan discussed the impact that these technologies can have on conflicts concerning IP rights and licensing agreements, and how key Internet players, such as Google, Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, Apple, PayPal employ geotargeting to effectively target different audience.
