Xiaoyan Zhang was invited to participate in the panel session titled “It’s a New Age in Data Privacy - Safe Harbour”, at the fourth annual Legaltech Asia Hong Kong event, held at the JW Marriott Hotel on 25 February 2016.
Moderated by Chris Dale, Consultant of the eDisclosure Information Project and including co-panellist Dmitri Hubbard, Regional Vice President of Xerox, the panel explored the impact of the pending EU Data Protection Regulation, the Schrems and Microsoft Dublin cases, and various moves against Facebook, Google in Europe. The panel discussed the basis of the CJEU judgement and looked at its practical and legal implications, including the effect on the manner and complexity of cross border e-disclosure and global information governance in the APAC. The panel also covered the practical steps that can be taken to mitigate risks as a result of the judgment and the companies are urged to take a proactive approach, including conducting a privacy audit, establishing an incident handling procedure, and providing employee awareness training.
