Mayer Brown, a leading global law firm, announced today that Jeff Legault has joined the firm’s New York office as a partner in the Corporate & Securities practice. Previously, Mr. Legault was a partner with Reed Smith in New York.
“Jeff has a strong track record of handling public and private mergers and acquisitions transactions, particularly on behalf of private equity firms based in the US and around the world,” said Philip Brandes, New York partner and co-leader of Mayer Brown’s global Corporate & Securities practice. “His experience further expands the depth and breadth of the firm’s private equity capabilities and complements our focus on private investment funds.”
Mr. Legault specializes in mergers and acquisitions, both public and private, with an emphasis on private equity transactions in a variety of industries, ranging from industrial/manufacturing to financial services. His clients include public and private companies, private equity firms (both sponsors and family offices) and investment banks. Mr. Legault also has extensive experience in negotiating joint ventures and strategic alliances, proxy fights and other matters of corporate governance and control, asset securitizations and general corporate legal matters, including representation of clients before the SEC.
Regarding his decision to join the firm, Mr. Legault said, “Mayer Brown’s strong international presence provides an ideal platform for the global nature of my work and will enable me to better serve private equity funds and family offices on M&A transactions, particularly in Latin America. The firm has a great reputation for providing quality legal counsel, and I look forward to contributing to the continued expansion of the Corporate & Securities practice by collaborating with my new colleagues on cross-border, cross-practice matters.”
Richard Spehr, partner-in-charge of Mayer Brown’s New York office, said, “Jeff’s arrival further accelerates the positive momentum and growth of the New York office, where we have already added five new partners in 2014 in key practice areas to help better serve the needs of our clients.”
Mr. Legault earned a JD from the University of Toronto and received a BA from Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario.
