Meredith Lussier is a mid-level associate in Mayer Brown’s Washington DC office and is a member of the firm’s Cybersecurity & Data Privacy and Litigation & Dispute Resolution practices. Meredith advises companies and multinational organizations on complex and cutting-edge issues related to cybersecurity and data privacy, with a focus on global compliance efforts, data breach response – including ransomware attacks – and regulatory investigations, including those from state Attorneys General and the Department of Health and Human Services/Office of Civil Rights. Meredith also advises clients on compliance with the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), the forthcoming California Privacy Rights Act (CPRA), and the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), among other key privacy and security frameworks. Additionally, Meredith helps clients prepare and implement cyber playbooks and incident response plans. Her clients span a broad range of industries, including the technology, communications, energy, healthcare, and automotive sectors.
Prior to joining Mayer Brown, Meredith was a senior associate at a boutique data privacy and cybersecurity law firm in Philadelphia where her practice focused on responding to data breaches and related data exposure events. As part of these efforts, she advised clients through the incident response life-cycle, including investigation, remediation, and notification, working closely with external forensic investigators and law enforcement. More specifically, she would assist in determining the nature and scope of the intrusion; identifying the affected individuals and types of information at risk; identifying state, federal, and international laws that govern the client’s notice of the incident, and any related contractual obligations. Meredith was also responsible for preparing legally compliant notices to affected individuals and state and/or federal regulators, as well responding to any regulatory investigations.
Earlier in her career, Meredith worked at a leading defense litigation firm in Philadelphia where she represented clients in a variety of civil litigation matters in state and federal court related to product liability, premises liability, catastrophic injury, and breach of contract.
Meredith received her JD from Villanova University Charles Widger School of Law, where she was a Dean’s Scholar and Associate Editor of the school’s Environmental Law Journal. During law school, she served as a Law Clerk to the Honorable Frances H. Stacey of the US District Court for the Southern District of Texas.
Meredith graduated from Franklin & Marshall College with a BA in Government and Public Policy. While at F&M, she was a member of the women’s lacrosse team, helping the team to earn a National Championship title in 2009. She was recognized as an All-Conference selection on multiple occasions.
