Mayer Brown partner Timothy Bishop receives “Amicus Service Award” from International Municipal Lawyers Association

Mayer Brown Litigation & Dispute Resolution partner Timothy S. Bishop (Chicago) received the International Municipal Lawyers Association’s (IMLA) “Amicus Service Award,” which recognizes lawyers who have authored amicus briefs on behalf of IMLA over the past 12 months. IMLA is an organization dedicated to advancing the interests of local government.

Mr. Bishop is recognized for submitting an amicus brief for IMLA in the Illinois Supreme Court in the Illinois Pension Reform Litigation. “IMLA’s legal advocacy program is vital to our mission and without lawyers like Mr. Bishop, we would not be able to sustain it,” said IMLA Associate General Counsel and Director of Legal Advocacy Amanda Kellar.

An experienced appellate lawyer who has argued five cases and briefed more than 60 before the US Supreme Court, Mr. Bishop also has successfully handled dozens of appeals in federal and state appellate courts. He represents clients in dispositive dismissal, summary judgment and class certification motions in federal and state trial courts. A co-author of the leading treatise Supreme Court Practice (10th ed. 2013) and a contributor to Federal Appellate Practice (2008), Mr. Bishop is a prolific author and speaker on appellate practice, environmental law and securities law.
