Xiaoyan Zhang was invited to speak at a Research & Development (R&D) seminar, organised by European Union Chamber of Commerce in China, titled “High-tech China 2016: The Shift to Innovation-led Growth”, on 12 November 2015 at The European Chamber’s Shanghai office. Xiaoyan’s co-speakers included Dr. Mason Wang, Director of Open Innovation for North Asia at Unilever and Dr. Vicky Au, Tax Director at PwC China. This topical seminar attracted around 40 attendees, many of which were representatives of European companies, and of innovation-led enterprises.
The R&D seminar explored best practice approaches to R&D in China, how China is seeking to stimulate innovation on par with that of the world, and some of the questions that are being raised as China slowly becomes a global innovation-powerhouse. During the seminar, Xiaoyan discussed common IP issues in technology transfer to China, and strategies to address them. The seminar also covered the approaches adopted by multi-national corporations to manage R&D in China and tax incentives currently available to R&D enterprises in China.
